Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 2 cups (240 g)
- Brown sugar: 1 cup (200 g), packed
- Unsalted butter: 1 cup (226 g), melted
- Rolled oats: 1 cup (90 g)
- Ground cinnamon: 1 teaspoon
- Ground nutmeg: 1/2 teaspoon
- Granny Smith apples: 4 medium, peeled, cored, and diced
- Caramel sauce: 1 cup (240 ml), plus extra for drizzling
- Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon
- Salt: 1/2 teaspoon
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, melted butter, oats, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until crumbly. Reserve 1 cup for topping.
- In a separate bowl, mix diced apples with caramel sauce and vanilla extract until coated.
- Prepare caramel sauce if making homemade, or use store-bought.
- Bake the crust for 10 minutes until lightly golden, then spread apple filling over it.
- Sprinkle reserved crumb mixture over the apples.
- Bake for an additional 25-30 minutes until topping is golden brown and apples are tender.
- Let cool for 15 minutes, drizzle with extra caramel, cut into squares, and serve.
Notes
- Granny Smith apples are recommended for their tartness.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days at room temperature or a week in the refrigerator.
- For gluten-free, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend.
