- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup (120ml) plain yogurt or sour cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 medium apples, peeled and diced
- 1/2 cup (60g) chopped walnuts
For the maple drizzle:
- 1/2 cup (120ml) pure maple syrup
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9-inch round or square cake pan by greasing it and dusting it with flour.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
- Peel and dice the apples and chop the walnuts, setting them aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the yogurt and vanilla extract.
- Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Gently fold in the diced apples and chopped walnuts.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- While the cake cools, prepare the maple drizzle by combining the maple syrup, butter, and cinnamon in a small saucepan over low heat until melted and combined.
- Once the cake has cooled for 10-15 minutes, remove it from the pan, place it on a serving plate, and drizzle the warm maple syrup mixture over the top before serving.

- Store leftovers wrapped tightly at room temperature for up to three days or refrigerate for up to a week.
