- 1 cup (240ml) maple syrup
- ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup (150g) brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 cup (120g) chopped walnuts
For the Brown Butter Glaze:
- ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter
- ¼ cup (60ml) maple syrup
- 2 tbsp (25g) powdered sugar
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare an 8-inch round or square cake pan by greasing it and lining the bottom with parchment paper.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract and maple syrup.
- Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just incorporated.
- Fold in the chopped walnuts until evenly distributed.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, prepare the brown butter glaze by melting the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat until golden brown and nutty.
- Stir in the maple syrup, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract into the brown butter until smooth. Drizzle over the warm cake after it has cooled slightly.
