Ingredients
Scale

- 100 g (1/2 cup) brown sugar, packed
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 115 g (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs (approx. 100 g)
- 120 ml (1/2 cup) milk
- 80 ml (1/3 cup) maple syrup, plus extra for serving
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 100 g (1 cup) chopped walnuts, toasted
For the maple glaze, you will need:
- 60 ml (1/4 cup) maple syrup
- 15 g (1 tbsp) unsalted butter
- 30 g (1/4 cup) brown sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F) and grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a larger bowl, beat the butter and brown sugar until creamy, then add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Stir in vanilla extract and maple syrup.
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, and fold in the chopped walnuts.
- In a small saucepan, combine maple syrup, butter, and brown sugar for the glaze, heating gently until melted and combined.
- Pour the cake batter into the prepared pan and drizzle the warm maple glaze over the top. Bake for 35-40 minutes, checking for doneness with a skewer.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve warm with extra maple syrup if desired.
Notes
- Use fresh, high-quality walnuts for the best flavor.
- Adjust sweetness by reducing brown sugar or maple syrup as per your preference.
